RNCM research

The RNCM aims to provide a unique environment in which musical creativity and experimentation can flourish by continually forging new connections between teaching, research and performance. Specifically, a dynamic culture of research is fostered that recognises, supports and disseminates relevant work by staff in all areas of its activities, including the creation, performance, production, history, theory, and psychology of music.  Research outputs include books, compositions, critical editions, journal articles, pedagogical materials, première performances and recordings.

Research Bulletin

The December edition of the RNCM Research Bulletin is available to download here: RNCM Research Bulletin December

The Research Bulletin provides readers with a useful insight into the exciting and innovative research and performance activities that are taking place within the RNCM by our dedicated staff and research students, while also highlighting useful funding information, calls for papers and research news for the wider musical academic community.

The first edition of the RNCM Research Bulletin is available at http://issuu.com/rncmresearch/docs/rncm_research_bulletin_october_2011?mode=window&backgroundColor=%23222222.

Research Forum

Please browse the Research Events Calendar page for abstract and biographical information relating to the next Research Forum, as well as information on upcoming research events. Abstracts of past research papers from this term's Research Forum and clips of archived research events can also be found on the RNCM's Moodle site: http://moodle.rncm.ac.uk/moodle2_0/course/view.php?id=8.

Research students are encouraged to play an active role in our lively research culture and to join in discussions of the work of their peers, staff and visiting experts in all the many areas of musical research embraced at the RNCM. The principal opportunity for these encounters is the RNCM Research Forum, held almost every Wednesday afternoon in term-time, between 5.15pm and 6.45pm. Staff and students have the opportunity to hear internal and external speakers, including academics, performers and composers, and to engage in the exchange of ideas that follows the presentations.
