Anya 17 nominated for HTF Media Award

The RNCM is delighted to announce that the libretto of Adam Gorb (Head of Composition) and Ben Kaye’s unique new opera, Anya 17, has recently been nominated for a Human Trafficking Foundation Media Award.
The opera, which premières in March next year, is the first of its kind to focus on sex-trafficking in the UK and is already gaining significant recognition from UK charities, Non-Government Organisations and national media.
‘I was absolutely thrilled to learn that the libretto of Anya 17 had been nominated for an award, especially as the première is several months away,’ says Ben, who worked with Adam on the Eternal Voices, a living memorial to the Royal Marines who have fought and died in Afghanistan. ‘The anti-trafficking charity Unchosen, which has been involved from the outset, had nominated the project for the award and fingers-crossed we will be successful.
‘Of course there have been books and films about the subject, but an opera is quite new,’ he adds. ‘Adam and I are really pleased about it and are looking forward to the ceremony, held at the House of Lords on October 17. I was also fortunate enough to receive an invitation to visit the Prime Minister at 10, Downing Street, to talk about the project on October 19.’
The Human Trafficking Foundation Awards have been introduced to highlight and commend the efforts of those in the media that have most effectively shed light on the issue of human trafficking in the UK. The winners will be unveiled by Minister for Immigration Damian Green MP at a lunchtime ceremony at the House of Lords on the October 17.
Anya 17 will be performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Ensemble 10/10 and vocal students from the RNCM in March 2012. To learn more visit www.anya17.co.uk
