Junior RNCM
The Junior RNCM provides specialist training to musically gifted
children and young people between the ages of 8 and 18. Juniors attend
on Saturdays outside normal school hours, travelling from as far as
Cumbria, Cleveland, North Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Gwynedd and
Shropshire. Many Juniors are members of the National Youth Orchestra,
the National Children’s Orchestra, the National Youth Brass Band or the
National Youth Choir and several have achieved great success in
national and local music competitions, most notably the British Junior
Eurovision Song Contest 2006, the BBC Young Musician of the Year
Competition 2006, the BBC Young Composer of the Year Competition 2006
and 2010.
The Junior RNCM provides expert tuition and specialist training for children and young people (aged 8-18) with exceptional musical ability and operates on Saturdays during term time between 9.30am-4.30pm.
Students receive highly specialised musical training without disturbing the balance of their weekday education and the normality of family life, and derive great benefits from making music with others of similar talents and aspirations.
A very high percentage of our students go on to study music at conservatoire or university, whilst a small number continue with higher education in other disciplines, greatly enriched by their Junior RNCM experience.
The atmosphere in the Junior RNCM is welcoming, stimulating and purposeful and we place great emphasis on promoting a safe and caring environment for our students.
