IT facilities

Information Technology skills are just as vital for musicians as for anyone else and the RNCM provides the facilities for its students to become fully conversant with Microsoft Office products as well as music notation software such as Sibelius.

The College provides a designated IT area within the Library with 24 work stations, all of which offer access to Microsoft Windows XP, Office 2003, Sibelius products as well as offering email and internet access. Printing in this area is currently free of charge. The Library also has a colour scanner equipped with Optical Character Recognition software.

The IT Studio is open every day from 7am to 11pm and comprises 12 PCs with TFT flat screen monitors. Each PC is equipped with Windows XP, Office 2003 and Sibelius products as well as offering email and internet access and CD writing facilities. Printing in this area is also free of charge. The IT Studio has full wheelchair access.

Students who live in the Sir Charles Groves Hall of Residence will be able to access College IT facilities from their own room with their own equipment (PCs are not provided by the College). These connections are not organised through the College IT Department so ask Hall of Residence Management for further information. An IT Induction course is run for all freshers.

A number of wireless networks are available around the campus: in the Cafe Bar, the Students Union and the Library. There are no restrictions on these networks so anyone with a wireless enabled laptop will be able to access them. Visitors to the RNCM can take advantage of our wireless network in the Cafe Bar which is free of charge.
